Throughout our Healthcare Hero fundraising campaign this summer, we’ve shared inspirational stories of our patients, staff, volunteers, and donors. In case you’ve missed an email here or there, we’ve put them all in one place for you.

Daphney

You may be hearing about some turmoil in Haiti right now, but despite the uncertainty our CCH clinic is open, staffed daily with Haitians helping Haitians. Here is just one story that inspires all of us.

Daphney is our hero, and you can be hers. Months ago, Daphney had a terrible motorcycle accident and suffered several open bone fractures. Fixators were put in her arm and leg until she could have surgery. During months of waiting for her operation, she still managed to continue her nursing studies at Notre Dame University Nursing School, one of CCH’s partners in Jacmel. Thanks to visiting volunteer surgeon Dr. Wodajo (US) and Dr. Oda (Haiti) Daphney had the surgery she desperately needed on both her arm and leg.

Daphney told us that she can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel now. Instead of being disabled by her injury, she hopes to regain a normal life and work as a nurse.

Consistent quality health care and access to surgery is what transformed Daphney’s story and allowed her to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse.

Despite all the uncertainty that plagues life in Haiti, month after month, CCH is there for patients like Daphney – but we need your help.

This summer, we have a wonderful opportunity, matched by a generous donor, to create sustained monthly support from donors like you, so that CCH’s mission can serve more patients like Daphney.

With a commitment of $30 or more per month, you become a Healthcare Hero, and your FIRST YEAR’s worth of giving will be matched! For less than $1 a day, your gift will achieve double the impact.

But don’t delay because this opportunity will run out quickly. The first 15 donors who sign up for recurring gifts will be matched!

New CCH Staff

Dr. Francois, CCH Lead Physician and Melissa Jean-Bart Health Resource and Clinic Coordinator are proud to introduce you to the HEROES who are continuing to make a difference, day in and day out, for the people of Jacmel and beyond.

Dr. Sindy Riche, a native of Jacmel, has returned to her hometown after years away and is a part time physician in our Primary Care Clinic.

Dr. Sanglaire St. Germain joins the CCH Primary Care Clinic as our second part time physician. Also from Jacmel, Dr. St. Germain and has expertise providing healthcare through mobile clinics serving extremely rural settings.

Nadege Bazile, joins our PT Rehabiliation Clinic after working as Auxilliare Nurse for over 15 years and caring for patients who are HIV positive for a USAID initiative here in Jacmel.

Kettie Parfait, RN connected with CCH after serving as a volunteer nurse alongside a recent volunteer surgical team. She joins our team as an RN with 10 years of experience working in the Central Plateau region of Haiti.

We want you to know that right now we have a wonderful opportunity, matched by a generous donor, to create sustained monthly support from donors and volunteers like you, so that these dedicated professionals can serve more patients with little to no access to quality healthcare. But just like the lazy days of summer, the time for this opportunity runs out quickly. We have until July 21st to earn our match!

“Over the years CCH has talked about partnering with Haitian clinicians to train them to provide excellent healthcare for their fellow countryman. When Dr. Lauren Outlaw approached me about putting a team together to include her friends from med school I thought it was an awesome idea.

Everything was coming together until she walked into my office one day and said she had no one to provide anesthesia. This would definitely be a show stopper had it not been for Dr. Magadala Pavrette (a Haitian Anesthesiologist in Port-au-Prince) who had supported our teams twice before. I contacted her and inquired about using this opportunity to train her residents based in the General Hospital in Port-au-Prince. She thought it was an great idea. Five doctors and students came including a surgery resident.

Dr. Outlaw’s team performed 30 cases without incident [thanks to the help of our Haitian colleagues]. The patients and their families were extremely pleased to have clinicians who could communicate with them and provide their anesthesia. The Residents were thankful to have supplies and medications. Often their ability to do cases is based on the availability of needed items. It is unheard of for them to perform 10 cases in one day or run 3 rooms simultaneously at the General Hospital, [like we do at CCH’s Surgical Center]. They are very interested in continuing a relationship with us in the future and bringing other clinicians. Word has gotten out in Port-au-Prince about the opportunities to train with us.”
