A big, huge THANK YOU to all of you who made #GivingTuesday a success this year. Thanks to generous donors like you, CCH earned ALL of our #GivingTuesday match and exceeded our goal, which will help keep our operations running near full capacity. We especially want to thank these Coalition churches (below) for donating the funds for our match.

Over the course of the day on December 3rd, we told you the story of baby Saida and her mom, Danira. Your gifts to CCH make sure these stories have happy endings. Every. Single. Day. Please continue to spread the word among your own communities so we can help more kids like Saida.

Baby Saida and her mom, Danira, have donors like YOU to thank for their good health.

Last month, Danira dropped her 19-month old daughter off at a neighbor’s house and headed to work at her local market.  After weeks of debilitating protests, the market was finally open and Danira desperately needed to earn money for her family. At first, baby Saida played happily, but within a few hours she became violently ill with fever and vomiting. The neighbor grew more worried with each passing minute. She didn’t know if Saida had ever seen a doctor or even if Danira could afford to pay one. It was crystal clear, however, that Saida needed medical care – and soon

Unable to reach Danira, the neighbor thought of the CCH Clinic behind the gas station. That’s where she had taken her own son for surgery last year. From her experience, she knew those doctors would treat baby Saida regardless of Danira’s ability to pay.

Just then, she heard the sound of a motorcycle taxi. Motos had been hard to find because of gas shortages. She knew it was a sign! She leapt into action, flagged down the moto and asked the driver to take her and Saida to the CCH Clinic.

Once she got into town, Danira’s neighbor was finally able to reach her by phone. Danira dropped her load of wares and frantically tried to find a ride to meet them at the Clinic. Fear pierced her heart, and her whole body felt sick: What was wrong with her daughter? How would she get to the clinic across town? Would the Clinic turn them away? She’d barely made enough money to buy food, much less pay for a doctor! Danira searched the crowded market street and called out for her own motorcycle taxi.

As she held onto the moto seat, weaving through traffic, she worried.  “What’s wrong with Saida?  How will I be able to pay for the doctor?” She hadn’t been able to sell much at the market lately.

Danira’s heart flooded with relief when she arrived at the clinic to see her daughter in the arms of a CCH nurse.  She hugged Saida tightly, then hugged her caring neighbor.  Thanks to her neighbor’s quick action, the CCH staff, and medicines available at the clinic, Saida made a full recovery.  And thanks to CCH’s sliding scale fees, Danira was able to afford the care her daughter needed.

It’s not too late to give in honor of Danira and Saida and so many others who need your help.
