“Two hours of recess!” “No more homework!” These are the kinds of campaign platforms I remember student government candidates espousing back when I was a kid in school. But times have changed, and kids these days are looking farther out into the world.
Students at Mountain View Elementary School in Purcellville, Virginia have made us especially proud lately. Their Student Council Association (SCA) voted to take the month of March to raise awareness and funds for the Community Coalition for Haiti. Their “change for change” campaign raised $460 for school supplies, medicine and doctor visits, and other vital needs in Haiti!
“I knew it [Change for Change] would work. I knew people would donate a lot of money for good things in Haiti,” said one SCA member.
We would like to thank Eli Seipt (son of CCH Executive Director and proud mama, Clark Seipt) for leading this effort on the SCA. We’d also like to thank the teachers and other SCA members who helped champion this cause, as well as each child and family who donated their precious dollars and coins.
The money raised by Mount View E.S. is being used to purchase CCH Gifts for Good to support healthcare and education in Haiti. Check out Eli’s video message below about the gifts Mountain View is giving to families in Haiti.
“At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a child, whom he put among them, and said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”
